Open Mind finalists announced

Sixteen researchers have been nominated to present their out-of-the-box research idea during TEKNOWLOGY. Five of these finalists will receive a grant of 50,000 euros during the festival to carry out their research for one year. Which ideas will be honoured? Watch the application videos now.

The sixteen finalists of Open Mind 2021 are diverse, from a straightjacket for viruses to capturing microplastics and from a rainfall radar for the tropics to an alternative for proteins. The common denominator of these proposals is that they are surprising solutions in which technology is used to create applications with social impact.

Presentation

Each year a budget of 250,000 euros is available for five Open Mind grants of 50,000 euros. During TEKNOWLOGY, the researchers will pitch their idea to the assessment committee and the public, which will be present both live and online. The five winners will be announced at the end of the afternoon. They will present the results of their Open Mind research next year during TEKNOWLOGY, just like the Open Mind laureates of 2019 and 2020 can be seen at the Innovation Market.
