The future of healthcare: the value of interdisciplinary work and art collaborations

TOEKOMSTBEELDEN

How can scientists from different fields, practical experts, and artists work together to imagine future scenarios? What is the value of film in stimulating conversations about innovation?

For the project TOEKOMSTBEELDEN (future images), researchers came together with residents and employees of a nursing home, and with filmmakers to imagine possible scenarios for the future of health care. These scenarios were eventually turned into three short fiction films. During this session, we will screen two of them.

Film maker Brian den Hartog and researcher Sjors Groeneveld will talk about the making process of the films: what was it like to work across disciplines? What were the challenges? What new insights did it bring?

We challenge you as a visitor to explore the value of film in conversations on innovation – both with colleagues and the broader society.

About the film

DATA VAN TROOST (2024, by Brian den Hartog) When Kees visits his life partner Arnold in the nursery home, it’s almost impossible to make a connection anymore. Still, Kees is shocked to hear that data measurements show that Arnold’s joy of life has dropped to a critical level. Will Kees manage to face the reality behind these numbers?

MENEER GROENENDAAL (2024, by Valerie Rutjes) Mr. Groenendaal is happy when his daughter and grandchildren come to visit. During dinner he notices that something is off. A film about human contact and technological solutions.

This session is a colaboration with InScience Film Festival. TOEKOMSTBEELDEN is organised by InScience, the Radboud University and care facility Kalorama. It is one of the  WECOM projects of the Nationale Wetenschapsagenda 2023.
